Now Taking a Look at My Picks for Today

When I analyze the races, I’m looking for any horse with a legitimate chance to win — especially since most of my bankroll goes toward the Pick 5. As a Pick 5 player, it’s all about identifying the right singles and finding value in the up-and-down sequences. With that in mind, let’s dive into today’s Del Mar card and see where the opportunities lie.

Race 1 – #1 My Perfect Wave (3-1)Closed nicely in her return off a layoff for trainer Tim Yakteen, and it’s encouraging to see Rispoli stay aboard the 3-year-old American Pharoah filly. Her dam has produced three winners from seven foals, and the added distance today could suit this filly’s steady, late-running style.

Race 3 – #6 Harcyn (8-1) Drops back down in class after facing tougher company. The last time this 5-year-old gelding competed at this level — right here at Del Mar over the summer — he found the winner’s circle for trainer Genaro Vallejo. Hot-riding Demuro gets the call

Race 8 – #Man O Rose (ML 8-5) Expect this morning line to drop. This 5-year-old gelding comes off a sharp win in the $100K Cal Flag at Santa Anita over the turf, but he’s even better on the dirt — boasting five wins from seven starts on the surface for trainer Jeff Mullins. Maldonado teams up again, and his stats with Mullins are strong. I’ll be using Man O Rose as a single in my Pick 5 and in my up-and-down wagers.
